SNES Controller - Repair Service
Repair Service for SNES Controller + Spare Parts put together by Zeni! Tuned with Super Metroid Speedrunning in mind.
**DISCLAIMER**
Super Metroid's "top runners" all have very different preferences for what they like in a controller and how it feels - especially the dpad - the controllers are built in a way that I personally prefer. If you have your own specific preferences, please communicate that with me and I will do my best to accommodate.
Need a SNES Controller, or having trouble with the one that you have? I've spent hundreds of hours building and tweaking SNES controllers while I've been speedrunning SM over the past 7+ years, and I want to help!
For repairs, you will need to contact me on Discord so we can exchange address info and confirm pricing and expectations. Please join my Discord here: http://discord.gg/nTwwsJt -- Once completed, please send me a DM.
If you are unable to communicate via Discord, you can e-mail me at shinyzenictrl@gmail.com, but I struggle to keep up with e-mail these days, so I would recommend Discord if at all possible.
Each controller comes with the following minimum:
- Upon receipt the Controller Shell will be inspected for working (not stripped) screws and screw shafts (usually Super Famicom variant logo) -- if the screw shafts are stripped, I cannot fix that.
- SNES Controller PCB inspection for visible damage (depending on the type of damage, I may or may not be able to fix that)
- OEM Rubber/Membrane Pieces Replacement (cannot guarantee durability of these, as they are typically 30+ years old)
- 1-2 Sets of replacement Rubber/Membrane pieces (aftermarket brand will be specified)
All controllers will be fully tested prior to being returned (this means I will use it enough to test/practice common trouble spots I've found, but I will not be using it enough to cause any additional measurable wear and tear :)
The price reflected is indicative of my average personal time spent building and testing the controller + shipping costs (details below, you will be responsible for the cost of shipping the controller to me initially)
An average nice used SNES Controller will typically cost anywhere from $20-40 + shipping (if applicable), and most of the time has not been properly cleaned or tested.
Controllers will be shipped via USPS unless otherwise specified -- shipping within the United States is typically $10 (included in the price listed) -- Please contact me via Discord for other shipping accommodations (including shipping outside of the United States) so we can work out additional pricing. My merch vendor does not calculate shipping prices correctly outside of the US at this time unfortunately.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE, CUSTOMS MAY CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL COST FOR YOU TO RECEIVE THE ITEM**
Variant Information:
The L/R buttons on SNES Controllers are very finicky and somewhat prone to failure. Many people like to stick a paper wedge between the PCBs, but this has never produced good results for me. The type of membrane used can also have drastically different results, even just opening the controller and putting it back together can screw up how it feels, how it responds, or both.
I can replace the L/R PCBs with some Tactile/Mechanical Switch variants instead, that physically click to activate instead of compressing a rubber dome shaped piece that completes the circuit. The upside to this is they are much more reliable. The downsides is that they feel different (many people prefer the softer feeling of the traditional button) and more importantly, they are harder to replace if they do break (soldering almost certainly required).
I am a novice with soldering, so if you are more experienced and would prefer that I just include the parts for you to replace yourself, we can do that as well.
I also do not have unlimited stock of these pieces. I would like to believe I could order more, but no guarantees!
